Bruce Lee & Chuck NorrisChuck Norris

In 1964, at a demonstration in Long Beach, California, Bruce Lee had met Karate champion Chuck Norris and became friends. In the movie Way of the Dragon Bruce Lee introduced Chuck Norris to movie-goers as his opponent in the final death fight at the Colosseum in Rome, today considered one of Lee's most legendary fight scenes and one of the most memorable fight scenes in martial arts film history. The role was originally offered to American Karate champion Joe Lewis...

Bruce Lee instructed several World Karate Champions including Chuck Norris, Joe Lewis and Mike Stone...

Chuck Norris fight career lasted from 1964 to 1974. Norris started off by losing his first three tournaments but, by 1966, he was almost unbeatable. Among the numerous titles he won were The National Karate Championships (1966), All-Star Championships (1966), World Middleweight Karate Championship (1967), All-American Karate Championship (1967), Internationals (1968), World Professional Middleweight Karate Championship (defeating Louis Delgado on 24 November 1968), All-American Championship (1968), National Tournament of Champions (1968), American Tang Soo Championship, and the North American Karate Championship. Norris compiled a fight record of 65-5 with wins over champions Joe Lewis, Skipper Mullins, Arnold Urquidez, Ronald L. Marchini, Victor Moore, Louis Delgado, and Steve Sanders. Of the five men to beat Norris, three were Allen Steen, Joe Lewis, and Norris's last career defeat to Louis Delgado in 1968. Norris retired as undefeated Professional Full-Contact Middleweight Champion in 1974.

Chuck Norris originally trained in
Tang Soo Do, a Korean style known primarily for its kicking techniques. Chuck Norris also trained in various other styles under some of the most respected instructors in the United States. These instructors included Shotokan Karate masters Tsutomu Ohshima and Hidetaka Nishiyama, Shito-Ryu Karate instructor Fumio Demura, American Kenpo Karate founder Ed Parker, Judo expert Gene LeBell, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legends the Machado family.

Chun Kuk Do (CKD) is a Korean-based American hard style of karate. The style was founded by Chuck Norris, and was originally based on Chuck Norris Tang Soo Do training in Korea while he was in the military. During his unprecedented competitive fighting career (undefeated world middleweight karate champion six years running), Chuck Norris began to evolve the style to make it more effective and well-rounded. He did this through committed study of other systems which he felt would complement his Tang Soo Do foundation. This evolution, along with his personal commitment to excellence, resulted in his phenomenal success. This openness continues today, as Chun Kuk Do continues to evolve to include aspects of other systems, or completely original aspects which make it more complete. Having gone by several names since the early 70's, the style has been known as Chun Kuk Do since 1990. The name is loosely translated to mean "The Universal Way". The Korean terms actually mean 'the way of 1000 lands', or 'the way of many lands'.

CKD is not an ad hoc collection of various techniques from different systems. Rather, it is a style with a deeply-rooted traditional foundation of its own - now unique and different from its Tang Soo Do predecessor - to which various other elements that complement its fundamentals have been added. Chun Kuk Do has come to emphasize self defense, competition, weapons, grappling, fitness, and more.

Like many other martial arts, Chun Kuk Do includes a code of honor and rules to live by. These rules are from Norris personal code. They are:

I will develop myself to the maximum of my potential in all ways.
I will forget the mistakes of the past and press on to greater achievements.
I will continually work at developing love, happiness and loyalty in my family.
I will look for the good in all people and make them feel worthwhile.
If I have nothing good to say about a person, I will say nothing.
I will always be as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own.
I will maintain an attitude of open-mindedness.
I will maintain respect for those in authority and demonstrate this respect at all times.
I will always remain loyal to my God, my country, family and my friends.
I will remain highly goal-oriented throughout my life because that positive attitude helps my family, my country and myself.
